A Summertime Clean & Green Day Recap

With record high temperatures on June 8, a hearty band of volunteers joined our SFRPD gardeners in timely fashion. Underlying cardboard and mulch topping were applied to ensure hydration and preclude weed infiltration of newly planted beds at the Jackson and Pierce entry.

Clean & Green Volunteers. Parents form a tag team. While one gardens, the other enjoys has quality playtime with the youngsters.

Join the Friends of Alta Plaza Park for some outdoor fun and community building next Saturday.  After you enjoy  a complimentary continental breakfast, help our SFRPD gardeners install new plantings on the Southwest corner and spruce up newly planted entry beds.  Gloves and tools will be provided.  Wear sturdy shoes, a sun hat and don't forget your sunblock! All welcome!  Come when you can, leave when you must!

On May 4, in conjunction with a city-wide dog area clean-up campaign, a dozen hearty and enthusiastic volunteers removed a considerable amount of foxtails from the Southside dog run terrace.  This invasive weed poses a very serious threat to pets.  The plant's barbed seed heads can invade the nose or burrow between the toes and inside the ears, eyes, and mouth and even dig directly into the skin.
