Lyft GoBike Expansion UPDATE!

Thanks to all who participated in the community survey last month. At the June 27th District 2 Leadership Meeting convened by Supervisor Catherine Stefani, participants expressed their strong opposition to the extensive Lyft GoBike expansion program. The Supervisor reported all further progress is on hold and we were assured that all survey response data will be preserved and factored into any proposals brought before the SFMTA. Friends of Alta Plaza Park will continue to monitor and report on this critical issue.

Children's Playground Sandbox Restoration

SFRPD gardeners Roberto Chavez and Emma Thoeni transferred a FIVE TON delivery of fresh sand from the plaza to restore the sandbox to its full capacity. Anticipating further improvements, SFRPD management has designated Alta Plaza Park for playground resurfacing. We look forward to announcing a project start date for our well used playground destination.

GoBike in Pacific Heights Survey!

GoBike, the bike share system with public bikes for use across San Francisco has targeted 12 docking stations in Pacific Heights including one on Alta Plaza’s Clay & Steiner sidewalk and one nearby at Clay & Fillmore streets, removing four commercial parking spaces, as shown in Grid E19 in the survey. We encourage you to fill out the GoBike survey so your voice can be heard. Note, you must register your e-mail to participate but can opt out of further communication at the end of the survey.

Alta Plaza Park Continuing Vandalism

We regret to report that vandalism continues to plague our park. A restroom window has been broken for the fourth time, and SFRPD Park Services has elected to board up the frame rather than incur another costly replacement. Further, an Eastside bench was uprooted from the asphalt walkway and thrown into the Children's Playground. Both the playground and sports courts are continuous targets of broken beer bottles and cans on a weekly basis. Recently, a dog was injured by broken glass as reported on NextDoor.
