Park Reopening August 31st!
Good news park supporters,
Alta Plaza Park reopened on Friday, August 31st!
Ultimately, at the end of this project we will have: a new irrigation system, perimeter French drains, new sod, bike racks, a new pathway at the Washington St. entrance, a new pathway at the Jackson St. and Pierce St. entrance, a donor recognition site, six new benches and new entrance plantings.
The vast majority of the north’s open grassy space is fully accessible to the public, with the exception of the following areas:
- Jackson St. and Pierce St. Entrance We are tremendously fortunate to have received City add back funds from Supervisor Catherine Stefani. The additional funding will go toward installation of a new pathway at this entrance. The work is scheduled to be concluded shortly. We truly appreciate the Supervisor’s ongoing commitment to Alta Plaza Park.
- Donor Recognition Overlook with Curved Bench This spectacular new addition to the park will remain closed while some final detail work is finished. This is one of the new features that was developed within the park’s Master Plan and will be completed within a short time frame from now.
- Small Areas of New Sod The new sod required a 60-day establishment period. Any sections that were planted recently will remain fenced off until they are fully established.
In addition, the Friends of Alta Plaza Park (FOAPP) are working with San Francisco Recreation and Park Department (SFRPD) to finalize details and logistics of new plantings that will be installed at park entrances. This work is to be completed in the latter half of this year.
We tremendously appreciate the individuals that donated generously to the earlier playground renovation and to this north side project as well as all the volunteers who devoted their time.
Additionally, we must acknowledge the professional team at SFRPD. Like all projects of this nature, there were many significant hurdles to overcome and City departments to coordinate. They managed it all successfully. We truly appreciate the work they do for the benefit of community outdoor spaces within this City.
Stay tuned for more information as to future plans for Alta Plaza Park from our newly recruited and energized FOAPP board of directors.
