Park Maintenance
Even as we comply with City mandates, outlined below, we enjoy the beauty and uplifting energies of Alta Plaza Park. Spring is here…and the plantings are in full bloom with more to come! Plants underwritten by the Friends of Alta Plaza Park (FOAPP) for installation at the Washington/Steiner beds have been secured at the Palace of Fine Arts greenhouse. There are 235 plants in all, and a project of this size will require scheduling a substantial gardener team when social distancing procedures are established.
Eight new trash receptacles were recently installed and are being heavily utilized. When enjoying the park, please use them. If one becomes overloaded, please “pack it in, pack it out” rather than discard refuse on the ground beside the receptacle, the sidewalk or pathway. DPW and SFRPD employees are doing their utmost to keep the park well maintained for all of us.
The long-standing water leak at the Jackson/Steiner corner has been repaired. We expect that SF Rec & Park will proceed with planned playground fence repair this summer after the department’s 2020-2021 budget has been approved by the Parks Commission and Board of Supervisors in June.
One upside of sheltering has been a reduction in park vandalism, according to our gardener, with the exception of a damaged bench. SFRPD Park Rangers have assured us that their patrols will continue as scheduled.
